Price of American Subaru crossover increased, but updates turned out to be minor

New 2026 Subaru Ascent

Subaru has introduced the updated 2026 Ascent, which will go on sale this autumn. The car received a simplified trim lineup but remains quite varied: Premium, Limited, Limited Bronze Edition, Touring, and Onyx Edition Touring.

The updates for this model are minor, as the crossover is already approaching the end of its life cycle. However, the base Premium version received some design elements from the previously available Onyx Edition, such as black mirrors, accents, and 18-inch wheels.

Interior and technical features

The interior has been updated with black trim details and new seat upholstery. Instead of fabric seats, water-resistant StarTex leatherette upholstery is now used. The top Touring trim for $51,165 features updated wood trim with a matte finish.

The technical part remains unchanged: under the hood works a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine producing 260 hp, paired with a CVT and all-wheel drive. Standard equipment includes a power tailgate, heated seats, three-zone climate control, and an 11.6-inch multimedia system with support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Prices for the new model start at $40,795, which is $800 more expensive than the previous model. However, some top versions, on the contrary, have become cheaper – for example, the Onyx Edition Touring now costs $51,995 instead of $52,050.

Despite the updates, the Subaru Ascent continues to lose popularity – sales of the model fell by 23.2% in the first half of the year. Unfortunately, minor changes in 2026 are unlikely to change this trend. The company is probably preparing a full-fledged generation change, which will allow the crossover to regain its former market positions.
