Price of Chinese Electric Vehicle Doubles Due to Use of Chevrolet Logo

Chevrolet Introduces Spark EUV Electric Vehicle for South America

Chevrolet utilized the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture to introduce a new electric model for the Brazilian market. The Spark EUV is essentially a rebranded Chinese Baojun Yep Plus. The vehicle debuted during an event celebrating Chevrolet’s 100th anniversary in Brazil.

The name Spark EUV might seem familiar, but this model has nothing in common with the electric hatchback sold in the USA until 2017. The new version is a compact crossover with a fully electric powertrain.

Specifications and Price

The Spark EUV is equipped with an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.8-inch touchscreen. It also received driver assistance systems from the drone manufacturer DJI. The electric motor on the rear axle produces 101 hp, and the 42 kWh battery provides a range of up to 401 km.

Chevrolet has already opened pre-orders for the Spark EUV in Brazil. The price starts from R$159,990 (approximately $28,600), which is more than double the price of the similar Baojun Yep Plus model in China.

Interestingly, in Brazil, the Spark EUV costs even more than the local competitor—the Fiat Mobi Electric. Supplies of the new model are set to begin in the summer. It is still unknown whether other body styles available in the Baojun lineup will be offered.

The price gap between the Chinese and Brazilian versions may be related to customs duties and logistics. However, even considering these factors, the difference remains significant, which could affect the model’s competitiveness in the local market.
