BMW is Preparing an Electric M3 with Over 700 HP
BMW is preparing a revolutionary electric version of the legendary M3, which will be part of the new generation of Neue Klasse models. This car will be sold alongside the traditional gasoline version, opening a new chapter in the brand’s history.
Prototypes are already being tested in Europe, particularly near Germany’s Nürburgring. Although the electric version may not replicate the emotions of a conventional engine, BMW M engineers promise to preserve the car’s driver-oriented character.
Design and Technical Features
The camouflaged prototype showcases a radically new front-end design characteristic of the Neue Klasse. The wide wheel arches are particularly impressive, giving the car an aggressive look similar to the current M5.
This tester also has a set of wheels that will likely carry over to the production model. These wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires and sit atop powerful, cross-drilled steel brakes.
Despite its significant weight (465 kg heavier than a regular M3), the car will receive a powerful braking system, possibly with an option for carbon-ceramic discs. The powertrain remains a mystery for now, but it is expected that four electric motors will produce no less than 700 HP, and in top versions – up to 1300 HP.
The electric M3, which may be called the i3M, has every chance to become the fastest production version in the model’s history. Its performance is expected to surpass even the anticipated new M5, making this car one of the most interesting electric vehicles of the future.
BMW M’s transition to electric technology raises many questions among brand enthusiasts, but recent tests show that the company is serious about the task of preserving the sporting character of its cars. The success of this project could be decisive for the future of high-performance electric vehicles as a whole.
