This $11,000 EV3 Copy Appeared in China Before Kia Could Release the Original

New Chinese Electric Car Dongfeng Nano 06

The Chinese manufacturer Dongfeng has unveiled the new Nano 06 electric car, which has drawn associations with the Kia EV3. While it is not a complete copy, the similarities in proportions, roof lines, LED optics, and even the plastic wheel arch covers are quite obvious.

To avoid legal issues, Dongfeng added unique elements to the Nano 06: different bumpers, original rear lights, and a split trunk, the lower part of which can serve as a table or seat. The interior features a panoramic roof, a 12.8-inch multimedia screen, and 500 liters of cargo space.

Technical Specifications and Price

The Nano 06 is built on the Quantum Architecture No. 3 platform. It is equipped with a single electric motor producing 181 hp and offers two battery options: with a range of 401 km or 471 km (according to the Chinese CLTC cycle). Fast charging allows replenishing 100 km of range in 5 minutes.

The price starts at ¥79,900 (approximately $11,100), which is three times cheaper than the Kia EV3 in Europe.

In China, the Nano 06 will compete with other small electric crossovers, offering an attractive combination of price, space, and functionality. Unlike Kia, which has yet to decide whether to launch the EV3 in China, Dongfeng has already opened pre-orders for its model.

Interestingly, despite similar dimensions (4,306 mm in length), the Nano 06 has a slightly longer wheelbase than the Kia EV3. The manufacturer positions it as a family adventure car, as emphasized in promotional materials. Given Dongfeng’s pricing strategy, this model could become a popular choice among Chinese buyers looking for an affordable yet technologically advanced electric vehicle.
