This New Kia Performance Sedan Model Will Not Appear on the American Market

First Images of the New EV4 GT

Kia has released the first images of the upcoming EV4 GT model, which was presented in a special camouflage livery. The car’s design resembles the standard EV4 GT-Line version but with more sporty visual details. The model will be available in two body styles: hatchback and fastback, with two engines and a tuned chassis.

Update for the American Market

For American electric vehicle buyers, who have already experienced disappointment due to Kia’s decision to postpone the launch of the EV4 in the USA indefinitely due to “changing market conditions,” this news may be even more unpleasant. The recently announced EV4 GT in the hatchback body is not the only performance version option. As confirmed by new spy photos, Kia is also developing an EV4 GT in the fastback body, meaning that this model will also not reach American buyers.

Fastback Features

This sedan version promises a more spacious rear compartment compared to the hatchback thanks to a more classic silhouette, although the rear styling is far from conventional. Despite the heavy camouflage, obvious details indicate that this is the GT model. Noticeable massive tires and the same high alloy wheels as on the GT hatchback are visible, with neon green brake calipers peeking out from behind them. Inside, bright green seatbelts and a corresponding ring on the steering wheel rim also confirm this.

Technical Specifications

Everything else concerning the EV4 GT in the hatchback body also applies here, including the powertrain with two engines producing approximately 400 horsepower and a performance-tuned chassis. There is no official debut date yet, but the EV4 GT in the fastback body will likely appear either together with the hatchback next year or shortly after it.

Previous Information about the EV4 GT

Kia quietly introduced the EV4 GT ahead of its market launch in 2026. The performance version of the electric hatchback was shown with a special camouflage wrap that barely conceals its exterior design. The GT is expected to be equipped with a dual-motor powertrain and all-wheel drive, as well as a number of targeted chassis upgrades. Combined, this should place the EV4 GT alongside electric competitors such as the VW ID.3 GTX, and long-standing favorites with internal combustion engines, such as the Golf R.

Design and Camouflage

The company used the presentation of the new GT Wrap as an occasion for a series of teasers. The livery combines glossy black with matte gray and neon green stripes, which, according to Kia, is meant to “evoke energy and speed.” This same fragmented design theme will be used for all electric GT prototypes in the late stages of development.

Exterior Details

Under the special camouflage, the EV4 GT retains a shape close to the existing GT-Line trim, with only minor differences. At the front, the performance flagship gets vertical slits in the lower bumper, giving it a more expressive look. On the side, diamond-cut alloy wheels hide neon-painted brake calipers, and at the rear, a GT-specific diffuser is installed with a central vertical LED light. This solution is reminiscent of the updated EV6 GT crossover, indicating a family resemblance. Kia has not yet released interior photos, although first glimpses reveal more sporty bucket seats with neon accents.

Technical Features

The real transformation will happen under the hood. Sources point to a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain with approximately 400 horsepower, combined with simulated manual gear shifting and an artificial rev limiter for greater driver engagement. The power source will likely be the familiar 81.4 kWh battery from the front-wheel-drive version with a long range. In accordance with Kia’s GT philosophy, the EV4 GT will receive special chassis tuning, including stiffer suspension and a faster steering ratio for more precise handling and livelier responses on winding roads.

Competitors and the Future of GT Models

The Korean model’s competitors will include cars such as the VW ID.3 GTX, Cupra Born VZ, and MG 4 XPower. It will also indirectly compete with hot hatchbacks, such as the VW Golf R and Toyota GR Corolla. Hyundai is also working on its own zero-emission hot hatchback, the Ioniq 3 N. Kia has also confirmed that every future GT model will be fully electric, making the current K5 GT the last performance model in the lineup with an internal combustion engine.

The development of electric performance models like the EV4 GT reflects a general trend among automakers towards combining sustainability and dynamics. It also highlights the growing competition in the electric vehicle market, where aspects such as design, technology, and availability in different regions are becoming decisive factors for success. The absence of the EV4 GT in the USA may stimulate local initiatives for infrastructure development and electric vehicle support policies.
