Volkswagen ID.Buzz Sold at Auction for Significantly Less Than the Recommended Price
The electric version of the iconic Volkswagen microbus has received a mixed reaction. On one hand, it attracts attention with nostalgia for the original, but on the other – the high price and limited range raise questions. At the initial stage, dealers often added significant markups, sometimes up to $35,000.
The First Owner Lost 15% of the Value in Five Months
The auctioned vehicle is an all-wheel-drive 1st Edition version with two-tone Mahi-Green and Candy White paint. The interior is finished in the Dune color scheme, with heated second-row seats and massage functions for the driver and passenger. The recommended price for such a configuration at the start of sales was $72,385.
The final bid at the auction was $61,500, which is 15% lower than the initial price. The owner lost a significant amount after driving less than 400 miles.
Although this is clearly a bad deal for the seller, buyers can use this case as an argument when bargaining with dealers. The rapid drop in value indicates that the market has not yet determined the real value of this model.
This case shows how quickly prices for new electric vehicles can change, especially for niche models. Even premium trim and limited production do not always guarantee price stability. For potential buyers, this is an opportunity to get a low-mileage car at a significantly more advantageous price.
