The Unique Dallara MPS Track Car
Italian engineering thought often gives birth to unique projects that go far beyond ordinary business planning. They are the fruit of pure passion for technology and speed.
Many are familiar with the Dallara Stradale — a two-seater track car from the company that has been building some of the world’s most impressive racing cars for decades. However, you have probably never heard of the Dallara MPS — a unique specimen, even more focused on racing than the Stradale.
Birth of the Project During the Pandemic
At the peak of lockdowns in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, company founder Giampaolo Dallara decided to create a single-seater track car inspired by the firm’s first racing car — the SP1000. This car, named Macchina Posto Singolo (MPS or Monoposto), is preparing for auction next month.
Dallara Stradale Is A $170K Track Toy You Can Use On The Road
The Heart and Soul of a Racing Car
The MPS is a project where Dallara fully embraces its racing DNA, abandoning any compromises for public roads. Like the SP1000, the MPS places the driver exactly in the center of the open cockpit, providing the purest possible driving feel.
The car uses the same powertrain as the Stradale: a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost engine from Ford producing 400 horsepower, paired with a six-speed automated-manual transmission.
Fully Carbon Monocoque
The foundation of the MPS is a carbon fiber monocoque. Although the exact weight of the car is not specified, there is no doubt that it would be an absolute weapon on the race track. The photos show that the MPS sits lower and slightly wider than the Stradale.
The car has many unique details: from distinctive headlights to a clamshell-style hood reminiscent of racing prototypes.
Spartan Interior for Concentration
The interior is almost entirely made of carbon fiber. The racing seat appears to be integrated into the monocoque itself. The steering wheel is multifunctional, upholstered in Alcantara, and in front of the driver is a digital instrument panel. Instead of a conventional windshield, a small transparent deflector is installed.
Auction for Charity
The sale of the car is being conducted by the auction house RM Sotheby’s. All funds raised from the auction will be donated to the Caterina Dallara Foundation, established in 2021 by Giampaolo and his daughter in memory of Caterina Dallara. The car’s mileage is irrelevant, as it is a unique piece of Dallara company history.
The expected price exceeds 700,000 euros, making the purchase far from impulsive. However, it is a chance to become the owner of a piece of Dallara’s madness and passion. This car is a true embodiment of an engineering dream born during lockdown, where carbon fiber and pure power reign.
This project clearly demonstrates how creativity and engineering skill can flourish even in times of restrictions. The creation of the MPS during the pandemic became not only a technical experiment but also a symbol of faith in the future of automotive passion. Such unique cars often become the starting point for new technologies or design solutions that later find their way into more mass-produced models. The auction of such a specimen is not just the sale of a rarity, but also support for an important social initiative, which makes the history of this racing car even more significant.
