Updated Version of the Denza Z9 Electric Sedan: Power Increased, Design Changed
In a market where rapid model updates have become the norm, even relatively new electric vehicles are already receiving modernization. Just a year and a half after the presentation of the fully electric Z9 sedan from the BYD brand Denza, which is the sedan counterpart to the Z9 GT Shooting Brake, the first images and details of the updated version have appeared. The car has received a substantially redesigned exterior and, as expected, has become even more powerful.
Documents from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show that the updated Z9 has completely new body panels. At the front, redesigned split LED daytime running lights are visible, while the main headlights are now positioned next to the black lower section of the grille.
The Chinese luxury brand, created with assistance from Mercedes, is now targeting European Mercedes buyers.
Exterior Changes and Dimensions
The side profile lines remain streamlined, although new side mirrors, similar to those used on Volvo and Polestar models, are now available. The door handles have also been redesigned, and new slim LED taillights are installed at the rear. The car’s length is 5090 mm, width is 1980 mm, height is only 1490 mm, and the wheelbase reaches 3025 mm.
Power for Everyone
The MIIT documents mention two different fully electric versions. The first is a single-motor version with a rear-axle electric motor producing 496 hp. There is no information on battery capacity, but the weight of this model will range from 2397 kg to 2438 kg depending on the configuration. The top speed is 250 km/h.
As we have learned from Denza, having nearly 500 horsepower is not enough. At the top of the Z9 sedan family will be a tri-motor version with two 416 hp motors and one 362 hp motor, totaling 1328 hp. This gives it a power advantage over the existing Z9 GT Shooting Brake, whose maximum power is 1274 hp. The top speed of this model will be 270 km/h, and it will weigh slightly more at 2588 kg.
Global Plans and the Future of the Family
Details of this new model emerged shortly after Denza announced the launch of the current Z9 GT Shooting Brake on the global market with sales in Europe and Australia. Given that the updated sedan is already in preparation, it is quite likely that a new version of the Shooting Brake is also planned, which will inherit some of the sedan’s design changes.
The appearance of the updated Denza Z9 once again highlights the incredible dynamism of the development of the Chinese electric vehicle market, where update cycles are becoming shorter and shorter. The increase in power of the base version to almost 500 hp effectively places it in the high-performance sedan category, while the top tri-motor version with over 1300 hp unquestionably competes with the most expensive supercars. The parallel launch of the model on the European and Australian markets indicates the serious ambitions of BYD and Denza to become a global player in the premium segment, offering not only affordable but also technologically advanced and powerful electric cars.
