New Special Edition Amarok
Volkswagen has introduced a new special edition of the Amarok pickup for the European market called the Dark Label. This model continues the tradition of darkened special editions that first appeared back in 2013. The new version occupies a position between the base models and the top PanAmericana version.
Design and Color Solutions
The car is offered in three colors: metallic midnight black, bright blue metallic, and dark gray metallic. Despite the name “dark label,” buyers have a choice of colors, creating a certain contrast with the model’s concept.
The design is characterized by numerous black elements:
Interior and Equipment
The interior is executed in black tones with ArtVelours seat upholstery. The leather-trimmed steering wheel and velour floor mats feature Dark Label branding. Standard equipment includes:
- 12.3-inch digital instrument panel
- 12-inch multimedia system
- matrix LED headlights
- tinted windows
Technical Specifications
The model is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel engine producing 237 hp with a torque of 600 Nm. The engine works in tandem with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
The total length of the vehicle is 5,350 mm, payload capacity is 1,090 kg, and maximum trailer weight is 3,350 kg. These indicators make the Amarok one of the most payload-capable pickups in its class.
Price and Availability
In Germany, the Amarok Dark Label is already available for order at a price starting from €68,468. This version is positioned price-wise between the base Style version (from €64,499) and the top PanAmericana (from €73,739). An additional option is a cabin with sliding windows costing €2,070.
Future Prospects
Volkswagen has confirmed that no hybrid or electric versions are planned for the current generation Amarok. However, in 2027, a new version of the pickup based on the SAIC platform with a hybrid powertrain will be introduced for the South American market.
Interestingly, Volkswagen continues to produce the updated version of the first-generation Amarok in parallel for the South American market, while the global version is manufactured in South Africa in cooperation with the Ford Ranger. Such diversity of approaches to different markets demonstrates the complexity of the global automotive business and the need to adapt products to local conditions and demand.
