Dodge Charger Gets Hemi V8 Engine, But It Cannot Be Used for the Road

News about the Dodge Charger with V8

Dodge has finally installed a V8 engine in the new Charger, as many had expected. However, there is a less pleasant side: only 50 such cars will be released, and none of them will be permitted for use on public roads.

Drag Pak Technical Features

The 2026 model year Dodge Charger Hustle Stuff Drag Pak from Direct Connection received not only a long name but also significant mechanical updates that transform the standard version with the Sixpack engine into a specialized drag racing car.

It is designed to compete in NHRA events at the amateur level and is capable of completing a quarter mile in less than 8 seconds.

Engine and Transmission

The performance foundation is a 5.8-liter Gen III Hemi V8 engine with a forged crankshaft and connecting rods, complemented by a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger. This engine previously set an NHRA Factory Stock Showdown record of 7.6 seconds. Power is transmitted to the rear axle via a Coan Racing XLT three-speed automatic transmission and a Mark Williams Enterprises rear axle with a 4.30:1 gear ratio.

Lightweight Thanks to Carbon

To reduce weight, the hood, doors, rear doors, and front bumper are made of carbon fiber, which reduced the mass by 45 kg compared to the Challenger Drag Pak. The suspension is tuned for competition and includes an adjustable rear section, new knuckles, stabilizers, and shock absorbers.

Wheelbase and Braking System

The car is equipped with wheels from Weld Racing and Mickey Thompson tires: the front wheels have a diameter of 17 inches and a width of 4.5 inches, the rear ones are 15 inches in diameter and 11 inches in width. For safety, lightweight brake mechanisms are installed, a rear wheel lock system for warming up the tires before the start, and a parachute for braking after the finish.

Interior and Design

Despite the sports modifications, the interior retained elements of the production Charger, including floor mats and instrument panels. A roll cage, sports seats, safety belts, analog instruments, and a quick-release steering wheel have been added.

The Drag Pak is the first racing project from the renewed SRT division, and the name Hustle Stuff references Chrysler’s tuning parts catalogs from the 1970s.

Production and Availability

Production is limited to 50 cars, which will be assembled by Riley Technologies. Buyers can choose from 18 body colors and three graphics options, as well as additional options such as lightweight engine components, carbon seats, and a data acquisition system.

Presentations and Future Events

The competition debut will take place at the NHRA Gatornationals in March 2026. The car will also be presented at the SEMA 2025 exhibition in Las Vegas, where a production version of the Charger with a V8 engine might appear in the future.

This project demonstrates how Dodge maintains a connection with its drag racing roots, even in the era of electrification. The limited series and specialized characteristics make it unique for collectors and enthusiasts, although the lack of road usability may disappoint some of the brand’s fans.
