Mirror issues in Mercedes and Maybach
When you buy a premium car, you expect every detail to be perfectly executed. Meanwhile, new Mercedes-Benz and Maybach models have been found to have a problem with the rearview mirror mounting. This affects 26 cars in the U.S., including GLE, GLS, and some Maybach models.
The manufacturer reports that the adhesive used to fix the mirror does not meet internal standards. Because of this, the mirror may peel off or even fall off completely. This is especially unexpected for new 2024–2025 model-year vehicles.
Why is this serious?
The rearview mirror is not just glass. It contains cameras and sensors necessary for the operation of driver assistance systems. If it fails, it could increase the risk of an accident.
Mercedes reports that the problem arose due to supplier AGC Automotive Americas Co. from Michigan. A deviation was detected in the manufacturing process, causing the adhesive to lack the required strength.
Vehicles manufactured between June 5 and October 12, 2024, are at risk. These include the Mercedes-AMG GLS 53, Maybach GLS 600, GLE 450 4Matic, and others. So far, no customer complaints have been received, but dealers have already been instructed to replace windshields and reinstall mirrors.
Although the issue affects a small number of vehicles, it underscores the importance of quality even in minor details. For owners of premium models, such incidents can cause unnecessary hassle, especially given the cost of these cars. Mercedes, as always, is responding quickly, but questions for the supplier will likely still be addressed.
