The Available BMW iX3 Model Allows You to Save Over 7 Thousand Dollars, But Has Significant Drawbacks

BMW Introduces the Base Version of the iX3 Electric Crossover

BMW has quietly introduced a new, base version of its electric crossover called the iX3 40. This model differs from the more powerful iX3 50 by having a smaller battery and a single electric motor.

Here are the key features of the new model:

Technical Details and Comparison with the More Powerful Version

When the iX3 debuted last autumn, it had a 108.7 kWh battery and all-wheel drive with two motors producing a combined 463 hp. The manufacturer promised the appearance of other modifications, including a base one.

The new iX3 40 is equipped with an 82.6 kWh battery and a single rear electric motor that produces 316 hp and 500 Nm of torque. This allows the electric crossover to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 200 km/h.

The expected WLTP range is up to 636 kilometers, which is significantly less than the iX3 50 version with its 805 kilometers. On the other hand, support for fast charging up to 300 kW allows for replenishing up to 299 km of range in just 10 minutes. The model also features bidirectional charging capability, and charging from 10% to 80% can take just 21 minutes.

Price and Equipment Features

The iX3 40 will appear in the UK in the summer, where its starting price will be £53,250. This is £5,505 (or approximately $7,280) cheaper than the iX3 50 version, which is a significant saving for the buyer.

The manufacturer did not disclose details of the standard equipment, noting that the exterior and interior design, as well as the base equipment of the new iX3 40, are identical to the iX3 50 xDrive. However, this may not apply to all markets, and it can be expected that in some regions the model may receive smaller wheels or other minor changes.

The arrival of the iX3 40 clearly demonstrates BMW’s strategy of diversifying its electric model range, offering customers a choice between power and range on one hand, and affordability on the other. This is a step aimed at attracting a wider range of customers who may be willing to sacrifice some dynamics and driving range in favor of a more attractive price. The fast-charging conditions remain competitive, making this model a practical choice for daily use and long trips with necessary charging stops.
