Affordable Ford Electric Pickup for $30,000 in 2027 to Become a Serious Threat to Slate

Ford Introduces New Electric Pickup Under $30,000

Ford has announced the release of a new mid-size electric pickup with four doors, which will go on sale in 2027. The vehicle will cost around $30,000 and will be manufactured at a plant in Louisville, Kentucky. According to the manufacturer, the price accounts for inflation and corresponds to the cost of the legendary Model T in today’s money.

The new pickup will accelerate to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 5 seconds – similar to a Mustang with an Ecoboost engine. The interior will be more spacious than that of a Toyota RAV4, and the cargo compartment will be able to accommodate, for example, surfboards. The vehicle is built on a new modular platform that will allow for the creation of different types of electric vehicles – from vans to full-size SUVs.

Innovations in Manufacturing

Ford will completely change the assembly technology, replacing the traditional conveyor line with an “assembly tree.” This will allow for the simultaneous manufacturing of the front section, rear section, and battery unit, which are then joined together in the final assembly. The use of aluminum parts and process optimization are expected to reduce production time by 15%.

“We were inspired by the Model T – the universal car that changed the world. Our new electric architecture opens up possibilities that the industry has not yet seen,” said Doug Field, head of Ford’s electric vehicle division.

With the launch of the new line of electric models, Ford will cease production of the compact Escape and Lincoln Corsair SUVs at the same plant in Louisville. This is part of the company’s strategy to transition to electric vehicles and optimize production capacity. The new platform will allow Ford to compete with Tesla in the affordable electric vehicle segment, promising lower operating costs over a five-year period compared to a three-year period for the Model 3.
