Affordable Slate Electric Pickup Suddenly Significantly Increased in Price

Price Increase for the Slate Electric Pickup

Initially, Slate announced its electric pickup as an affordable option with a price of less than $20,000 after federal incentives. However, the company has now updated the information on its website, stating that the “Blank Slate is expected to be in the mid-twenty-thousand range.”

The company added that the “price is subject to change” and “does not include taxes, fees, and additional equipment.” This represents a price increase of approximately $5,000, making the model less attractive compared to other electric pickups available on the market.

Reasons for the Changes

There are no official comments from Slate yet, but the changes are likely related to new legislation that cancels tax credits for eco-friendly vehicles. These changes will come into effect as early as September 30, 2025, which could lead to further price increases for electric vehicles and a decrease in demand.

The technical specifications of the pickup remain unchanged: a rear electric motor with 201 hp, two battery options of 52.7 and 84.3 kWh with ranges of 150 and 240 miles respectively. Acceleration to 60 mph takes about 8 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 90 mph.

The previous price level made this pickup an attractive option, despite some compromises in equipment. However, after the price increase to $25,000, its competitiveness may significantly decrease, especially against the backdrop of other available electric models.
