Minor Defect May Lead to Engine Replacement for Half a Million Nissan and Infiniti Owners

Nissan Recalls Nearly Half a Million Cars Due to Risk of Engine Failure

Nissan has initiated a recall of 443,899 cars and SUVs due to potential problems with VC Turbo engines. Models at risk include the 2021-2024 Rogue, 2019-2020 Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50, and the 2022 Infiniti QX55.

Dealerships will remove the oil pans on 1.5L and 2.0L engines for inspection. If metal particles are found in the oil, the engines will be replaced with new ones. For “clean” engines, only an oil change will be performed, and for 1.5-liter engines, a new pan gasket will be installed and the engine control unit software will be updated.

Nissan’s Strategy

The manufacturer does not plan a mass replacement of all potentially problematic engines. Instead, targeted inspections will be carried out, which will optimize costs. Regulators approve of this approach, considering Nissan’s experience with previous recalls.

Earlier this month, Nissan avoided a larger recall when the NHTSA closed an investigation into suspension problems in 2013-2018 Altima and Maxima models. The regulator found that Nissan had taken sufficient preventive measures.

Owners of affected vehicles will receive notifications about the need to visit a dealership. Although the scale of the recall is significant, the company’s approach minimizes both financial losses and inconvenience for customers. This shows how modern automakers are trying to balance warranty obligations with efficient resource management.
