Two Tesla Cybertruck Pickups Destroyed by Fire in California
In early 2025, a wave of Tesla car arsons swept across the USA and Canada, linked to public reaction to Elon Musk’s political activities. Now, in California, under unexplained circumstances, two more Cybertruck electric pickups have burned down completely.
Key details about the incident:
Chronology of Events
Two Cybertrucks were parked next to each other on the roof of a parking structure in Santa Monica on Wednesday. The city’s fire department received a call just after 3:15 PM, but by the time units arrived, both electric vehicles were already engulfed in flames.
Footage from the scene shows that only fragments of the stainless-steel body panels and parts of the steel platform remained of the vehicles. Other Tesla models were parked nearby, leading to speculation that the cars might be related to the nearby company service center. Another possibility is that the pickups could have belonged to residents of the Anara Santa Monica residential complex, to which the parking structure is attached.
Investigation of Causes
Police are investigating how the fire started. The fact that the vehicles were not charging rules out the version of a charging device malfunction. The sight of two pickups simultaneously engulfed in flames looks suspicious, especially against the backdrop of the tense political atmosphere in the country.
There is no official conclusion yet, and investigators continue their work. Theoretically, a version of spontaneous ignition of one of the pickups due to a battery malfunction is possible, however, no previously recorded cases of such with the Cybertruck have been reported.
This incident once again draws attention to the issue of electric vehicle safety, especially new and unconventional models like the Cybertruck. Although the causes of the fire are still being determined, the very fact of the complete destruction of two vehicles raises serious questions. It is important to note that any technologies, especially such innovative ones, require thorough study and testing in real-world conditions. Similar incidents, regardless of their root cause—technical failure or external interference—affect consumer trust and shape public opinion. Awaiting the investigation results is key, as they could clarify whether this was an isolated event or a symptom of a potentially larger problem.
