Diesel Fuel Exceeds $5 for the First Time in Many Years, While Gasoline Costs $7.69 at One Station

Sharp Rise in Fuel Prices in the USA

The war in Iran continues, with tankers and oil fields under attack. These events only deepen concerns about the rapid rise in energy prices.

The fuel situation in the USA is becoming critical. According to monitoring data, a sharp price increase has been observed over the past month:

Diesel Crosses a Psychological Threshold

The current average price for a gallon of diesel fuel is $5.068. This is a sharp jump from $3.670 a month ago. The last time diesel cost over $5 was in December 2022. However, prices are still significantly lower than the absolute record of $5.816 recorded on June 19, 2022.

The increase in diesel cost will have broad consequences for the economy, as this fuel is its lifeblood. Diesel engines power tractors, construction equipment, ships, trucks, and locomotives. Thus, practically everything that is transported, grown, or harvested partially depends on diesel. Experts note that the inflationary impact of diesel price increases usually does not appear immediately, but within a few weeks it is reflected in grocery store receipts, delivery surcharges, travel costs, and the purchasing power of the population.

Gasoline is Also Rapidly Becoming More Expensive

The problem is not limited to diesel. The average price for a gallon of gasoline in the country is now $3.842, which is over 31% higher than a month ago when it was $2.923.

Prices vary significantly depending on the state. For example, in California, one has to pay an average of $5.561 per gallon, while in Kansas the same amount of fuel costs only $3.231.

Record Prices at Individual Gas Stations

In addition to average indicators, individual gas stations, especially in remote areas, are setting truly record prices. The San Luis Obispo Tribune publication found one such gas station in California where a gallon of gasoline is sold for $7.69. Another station, according to data on Monday, was asking $6.79.

For example, a Shell station in San Francisco reportedly sells regular unleaded gasoline for $6.60 per gallon and diesel for $6.90. In the city of Truckee, several gas stations were still listing the price of $6.79 per gallon of gasoline yesterday.

Such price dynamics create significant pressure on the budgets of both ordinary car owners and businesses related to logistics and transportation. Geopolitical tension in the Middle East remains a key factor of instability in global energy markets, and further developments will directly affect whether it will be possible to stabilize the fuel price situation in the coming months. Economists warn of the risk of intensifying inflationary processes due to the transportation component of the cost of goods.
