Jeep brings back SRT, introducing a two-door Hemi Scrambler

Jeep prepares a powerful return of SRT versions

After a long period of instability, Jeep is beginning to restore its position. Recently, the brand introduced updated Grand Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer models, as well as a redesigned Cherokee and an all-new Recon.

During the Stellantis Investor Day, the company confirmed plans to release a number of SRT modifications. Among them are high-performance versions of the Grand Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer.

Technical specifications of future SRT models

It is expected that the new models will appear by 2030. They will feature an aggressive front bumper and a sporty chassis. Almost certainly, under the hood there will be a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, producing around 777 horsepower (579 kW) and 921 Nm of torque.

Revival of the Scrambler: a two-door pickup with Hemi

The company is also reviving the Scrambler name for an all-new pickup truck. According to The Drive, the Wrangler Scrambler SRT is a two-door version of the Gladiator model.

Unlike the classic CJ-8 Scrambler, this is not a traditional single-cab pickup. It is reported that the vehicle will have two rows of seats and extended doors for easy access. Interestingly, the rear row of seats can rotate 180 degrees, like in some campers.

It is also expected that the pickup will get a three-piece removable hardtop and a unique front-end design. It will likely be equipped with the 6.4 Hemi V8 engine from the Wrangler 392, producing 470 hp (350 kW) and 637 Nm of torque.

Updates for the Compass and a gasoline-powered Recon

Stellantis, unfortunately, ended the live stream of the presentation, and the replay will only be available tomorrow. However, according to Car & Driver, the company confirmed plans to introduce an updated Compass in North America, as well as another update for the Grand Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer.

One of the biggest news was that the Recon model will get a gasoline version. The fully electric crossover will be supplemented by a variant with an internal combustion engine. It will likely be the inline six-cylinder Hurricane engine used in the Dodge Charger. It is available in versions with 420 hp (313 kW) and 550 hp (410 kW).

Thus, Jeep is not only bringing back iconic names like Scrambler but also actively expanding its lineup of high-performance SRT versions. The decision to add a gasoline engine to the electric Recon demonstrates the company’s desire to meet various market demands, especially in North America, where demand for powerful SUVs with traditional engines remains high. This also shows that Stellantis is betting on a hybrid strategy, combining electrification with time-tested powertrains to remain competitive in a segment dominated by players like the Ford Bronco and Ram.
