A unique 1988 Mercedes W124 tuned by Hartge has been put up for auction at RM Sotheby’s. This one-of-a-kind car is truly impressive.
The tuning of the Mercedes 124 turned out to be very unconventional. The fact is, the sedan’s engine bay houses a BMW engine. More precisely, it is equipped with a 3.5-liter straight-six from the supercar BMW M1 and coupe M635 CSi.
The engine has been slightly bored, increasing its power from 286 to 330 hp. The manual transmission was taken from the BMW 6 E24. The charged Mercedes sedan accelerates to 100 km/h in 6 seconds and can reach about 330 km/h.
Additionally, the Mercedes W124 Hartge F1 received Bilstein shock absorbers and improved brakes. The car can be distinguished from the standard sedan only by its modest body kit, tinted lights, and new wheels, while the interior features sport seats and a Hartge steering wheel.
