Ex-Ferrari Chief Designer allegedly created a new Luxeed SUV, but the Italians have serious doubts about it

New electric crossover Luxeed RX: Ferrari style and power up to 586 hp

China has presented another stylish fully electric SUV, which, like many others, is clearly inspired by the design of the Ferrari Purosangue. This is undoubtedly a good thing, although it may cause some discontent in Maranello.

We are talking about a model called RX from the Luxeed brand. This brand is owned by Chery and operates in partnership with Huawei as part of the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), which also includes Aito, Stelato, Maextro, and SAIC. Luxeed itself describes the RX as an FUV, i.e., a Fashion Utility Vehicle.

Design by the “former chief designer of Ferrari”

According to Zhao Changjiang, the executive director and vice president, the RX design was developed by a new employee who was allegedly a “former chief designer of Ferrari.” However, the reliability of this information is questionable, as the PR director of Ferrari in China publicly asked for the name of this designer, stating that the brand had not lost its chief designer. Despite this, the overall shape of the RX does indeed resemble the Purosangue and the Xiaomi YU7.

Technical specifications and versions

The SUV’s dimensions are 5020 mm in length, 2007 mm in width, and 1585 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3000 mm. The front looks quite impressive thanks to stylish headlights, a splitter, and a black radiator grille. Other notable design elements include black side sills, prominent rear fenders, and a rear spoiler. As with other Luxeed models, the rear lights feature a complex LED strip.

Photos published by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China indicate a wide selection of options, including brake calipers in yellow, red, and silver colors. Several different wheel designs are also offered, including a variant with bright purple spokes.

The battery capacity of the RX is not yet known, but the base model will use an NMC battery from CATL, while the flagship version will get an NMC battery from CALB. It is known that the base model will have an electric motor producing 372 hp, driving the rear wheels. A dual-motor version will also be available with a total power of 586 hp and a top speed of 251 km/h.

It is worth noting that the electric vehicle market in China continues to develop rapidly, and the appearance of models like the Luxeed RX only intensifies competition. Despite the controversy surrounding the origin of the design, the car has every chance of becoming popular thanks to its power, modern technology, and attractive appearance. The collaboration between Chery and Huawei allows for the integration of advanced software solutions, making this car not just a means of transportation, but also a part of a smart device ecosystem. Whether the Luxeed RX will be able to take some attention away from the popular Xiaomi YU7 remains to be seen, but the brand’s first steps look promising.
