In Ukraine, a former official was exposed who helped a Russian citizen import a luxury Ferrari Roma during the preferential “zero customs clearance” regime. This was reported by the National Police, as informed by Censor.NET.
The matter concerns a 2020 model year car worth about $221 thousand (over 8.8 million UAH). In May 2022, it was officially registered in Ukraine under a nominee person, but within a week the car ended up in one of the EU countries, where the actual user became a citizen of Russia.
The investigation established that the payment at the German car dealership was made by the Russian buyer himself. The task of the former official was to act as the formal owner, to process the registration and a power of attorney for using the car. According to media reports, this concerns Valentyn Slobodianiuk, who for some time headed the state enterprise “Oboronavtoremservis” of the Ministry of Defense.
Law enforcement officers also stated that in the declaration for 2022, the suspect undervalued the real value of his corporate rights and did not indicate the Ferrari Roma. In total, the amount of inaccurate data exceeded 17.4 million UAH.
Searches, interrogations, and seizures of documents confirming the scheme were conducted. He has now been served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 366-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — declaration of inaccurate information on an especially large scale. The sanction of the article provides for up to two years of imprisonment with restriction of the right to hold certain positions.
