Exclusive Chevrolet Chevelle Two-Door Wagon: A Family Resto-Mod Like a Corvette

On March 22, a rare two-door Chevelle Malibu wagon will be auctioned. The 1964 restomod with a supercharged V8 LT4 producing 650 hp impresses with its power. The car also features reupholstered BMW seats and a complete brake and chassis overhaul. There are nine crossovers available in the US, but not a single wagon. However, 61 years ago, the situation was different.

Back then, crossovers were in the minority, and wagon buyers had plenty of options. The Chevy II, mid-size Chevelle, and full-size Biscayne/Bel Air/Impala models were available with wagon bodies, but none had the power of this stylish restomod. The car up for auction with Mecum on March 22 was originally a 1964 Chevelle with a rare two-door body. Wagons could also be ordered with four doors for more practicality and a less funeral appearance, but the large rear windows only add to the appeal of this classic restomod. This car was modified by Dutch Boys Hot Rods in Vicksburg, Michigan, who fitted a modern 650 hp engine under the hood and paired it with a ten-speed automatic transmission for maximum acceleration on straight roads and smooth highway cruising.

Considering that in 1964 Chevelles came out with modest power of about 280 hp (284 hp) net, the entire car needed significant technical upgrades to accommodate the LT4 engine, and the Dutch Boys delivered. They added an Art Morrison Sport GT chassis, Strange Engineering coilover shocks, Wildwood brakes, and large Budnik wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Legendary customizer Art Himsl from Concord, California, repaired the body and applied light yellow paint, and inside the Chevelle, you’ll find a tan leather update and reupholstered heated seats. The stylish fabric rug in the large shallow trunk shows some wear, but such a practical classic car begs to be used. The battery placement inside the braided bumper in the trunk is also a stylish touch.

Obviously, someone once invested a considerable amount of money into this Chevelle, but since Mecum doesn’t provide an estimate, we’ll have to wait to find out how much it’s worth in 2025. You can view the full listing, but if you’re interested in participating in the auction, you’d better hurry, as the auction ends today.
