Lucid Gravity Electric Crossover is 30% More Expensive in Leasing Than Air Sedan, Despite Lower Price

Leasing the new Lucid Gravity SUV costs $1,380 per month, while the Air sedan requires a payment of $1,070.

The base price of the Gravity Grand Touring is $96,640, which is $15,760 less than the Air Grand Touring.

However, more favorable leasing terms for the sedan make it a more affordable option.

When choosing between two cars, buyers usually pay attention to the starting price, power, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h, fuel consumption or, in the case of electric vehicles, driving range. But the significant difference in the lease payment for the Gravity SUV and the Air sedan from Lucid reminds us that for many customers, the key factor is the monthly cost, not the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.

As discovered by Cars Direct, despite the lower starting price, the monthly payments for the Gravity are significantly higher compared to the Air. Experts call the SUV an “unfavorable option for leasing” due to the high lease payment of around $1,380, which is 30% more than for a comparable sedan.

Although the manufacturer plans to introduce a more affordable Touring trim later this year, for now the Gravity is only available in the Grand Touring version for $96,640. This is significantly cheaper than the Air Grand Touring sedan, which costs $112,400.

However, considering a down payment of $8,030 and a $995 acquisition fee, the advertised cost to lease the Gravity for 36 months rises to $1,380 before taxes. For comparison, the Air Grand Touring with all fees costs approximately $1,070 per month.

Why is the Gravity, which is cheaper to buy, more expensive to lease? The difference is explained by the size of the manufacturer’s incentives: for the sedan, they are almost twice as large and include a $5,000 Air Credit, a $1,000 On-Site Vehicle Bonus, and a $2,000 Conquest Offer.

For now, the Air sedan looks like a more advantageous option, especially considering the availability of more affordable trims. For example, leasing an Air Touring costs only $731 per month – almost half the price of the Gravity, despite having fewer options.
