Avatr Announces New Electric Model 06T for the Chinese Market
Stylish station wagons have become an increasingly rare sight these days. Buyers are more frequently choosing crossovers and SUVs, and manufacturers, naturally, are following the demand. Classic low and sporty station wagons now resemble a niche product. However, in China, there are several brands willing to keep this format alive. Among them is the company Avatr.
The brand has introduced its new product — a station wagon named the 06T. In terms of dimensions and profile, the model is similar to the Zeekr 007 GT. The new Avatr development will be available both in a range-extender version and in a fully electric configuration. The car has an attractive shooting brake shape that may interest many car enthusiasts.
Technical Specifications and Design
The length of the Avatr 06T is 4940 mm, width — 1960 mm, and height — 1475 mm. The wheelbase is 2940 mm. The model is built on the same platform as the 06 sedan. The rear of the sedan always looked somewhat awkward, but the elongated roof in the station wagon body helps balance the proportions and gives the overall appearance a more organic and balanced look.
The station wagon looks more proportional than the sedan version.
Modifications and Power
The fully electric version, shown in a new color called Liujin Orange, uses a battery with a capacity of 89.33 kWh. Buyers will have access to two rear-wheel-drive variants. The base model is equipped with two motors, each with 302 hp, while the more powerful version gets two motors with 337 hp each.
At the top of the lineup will be an all-wheel-drive modification. In addition to the two rear motors with 337 hp each, it will have another one, with 282 hp, at the front. The total output will be 955 hp. Acceleration figures from 0 to 60 mph have not been disclosed yet, but it is known that the top speed of all models is limited to 149 mph.
Range-Extender Version
Alongside the three electric variants, Avatr will also offer a range-extender version of the 06T. This model uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with 154 hp, which functions solely as a generator to charge the battery. Movement is provided by two electric motors with 248 hp each, located on the rear axle. The battery capacity, total range, and electric-only range have not been disclosed yet.
The emergence of a car like the Avatr 06T indicates that demand for emotional and practical body styles, such as station wagons, still exists, especially in the dynamic Chinese market. The combination of powerful electric powertrains with attractive design may find its admirers among those seeking an alternative to mass-market crossovers. The success of this model could be indicative for other manufacturers regarding the advisability of investing in niche, yet emotionally rich body styles in the era of electrification.
