Mercedes-AMG Electric: A Powerful Sedan Without Fuel, Only Stars

Mercedes-AMG has removed some of the protective panels from its long-awaited electric sedan, showcasing it in its best light. This model will become a competitor for the Porsche Taycan and Audi RS e-tron GT. Is it worth looking forward to?

Fresh teasers show a prototype with a streamlined, low-slung body that bears an obvious resemblance to the three-year-old Vision AMG concept. Like its predecessor, the new model features bright LED daytime running lights in the shape of a three-pointed star. Similar elements have already appeared on the new CLA and will be used on other Mercedes models, but AMG has made them larger for this car.

A conventional radiator grille is not visible, although ventilation holes are noticeable in the lower part of the bumper.

The side profile looks impressive and is complemented by lightweight alloy wheels that improve aerodynamics. Round LED taillights with a star motif are installed at the rear, replacing the temporary elements on early testers. An active rear spoiler is also provided.

What’s noteworthy

Although the Taycan and RS e-tron GT were revolutionary for their brands, AMG has every chance to create a worthy competitor. The prerequisites for this already exist.

The basis for the electric version of the AMG GT 4-Door will be the new AMG.EA platform with a battery from Sila Nanotechnologies (USA) and motors from the British Yasa. The power is expected to exceed 1000 hp, allowing it to compete with the top versions of its rivals.

For fans of classic engines, the conventional AMG GT 4 Door version with an internal combustion engine will remain on sale.
