Kia electric vehicles are becoming more compact and this trend continues

Kia is preparing a new compact electric model EV2

Kia is actively testing a new electric model, the EV2, which is set to debut in early 2026. This is a compact crossover based on the previously presented EV2 concept. Among the features of the new model:

Technical features and positioning

The EV2 will occupy a lower price niche compared to the EV3, with an estimated starting price of around £27,000. Its main competitors will be the Renault 4, Citroën e-C3, and Fiat Grande Panda. Unlike Kia’s more expensive models, this version will likely feature a 400-volt charging system instead of an 800-volt one.

The car is expected to have front-wheel drive and a small battery, providing a range of around 200 miles (320 km). For comparison, the EV3 offers batteries with capacities of 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh.

New spy photos confirm that the production version will retain the main features of the concept, though it will lose the rear doors with reverse opening and get a conventional B-pillar.

The EV2 is planned to hit the European market in 2026. However, it may not remain Kia’s smallest electric model—the company is considering developing an even more compact EV1 to compete with the upcoming Volkswagen ID1.

Interestingly, in the American market, the EV3 will remain the entry-level model in Kia’s electric lineup, as the smaller EV2 and EV1 are not planned for sale in the US. The company continues to expand its electric lineup, covering various market segments—from compact urban models to large family crossovers.
