Mazda electric vehicles will be produced at a universal plant in Japan

Mazda is preparing to produce electric vehicles at existing facilities

Mazda plans to launch its first electric vehicles at the Hofu 2 plant in Japan starting in 2027. Unlike other manufacturers, the company will not create separate EV production lines but will instead use flexible technologies to produce different types of vehicles on the same line. This will significantly reduce costs and speed up the process.

The plant already produces the CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90 models and is now preparing to manufacture electric cars. The production line uses automated platforms that allow for quick adaptation to changes in demand. For example, if demand for EVs increases, Mazda can easily ramp up production without significant effort.

“We can produce 100% electric vehicles or none at all—depending on demand. For a company like ours, this is the optimal approach,” said Takuto Hironaka, production manager.

Production flexibility allows Mazda to efficiently utilize resources without investing heavily in separate lines. This is especially important for a company that is not yet a leader in the electric vehicle sector but plans to gradually expand its presence in this market.

The use of automated systems and adaptive technologies indicates that Mazda is preparing for future changes in the industry. The company is betting not on large-scale investments but on the smart use of existing capacities, which could serve as an example for other manufacturers.
