Electric Vehicles Lead the Ranking of the Most American Cars

American Cars: Who Leads in 2025?

According to the study, Tesla dominates the list of the most “American” cars, taking the first four positions with the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X. The Jeep Gladiator ranked fifth, and the Chevrolet Colorado made it into the top 20. However, foreign manufacturers such as Honda, Acura, and Kia occupied 13 of the top 20 spots in the ranking.

The study considers the place of assembly, the origin of parts, engines, transmissions, as well as employment in manufacturing. As experts note, no car in the history of the index has achieved 100% American component content due to the globalization of production.

Impact of Tariffs on the Market

The survey showed that 73% of buyers consider American-made cars to avoid additional costs due to tariffs. However, the average percentage of American components in the top 10 models fell from 83.4% in 2006 to 70.3% in 2025.

The full list includes 117 models, among which are BMW and Mercedes cars produced at plants in South Carolina and Alabama. Despite political pressure for production localization, the trend towards globalization in the automotive industry continues to intensify.

“Car manufacturing is a complex international process,” noted researcher Patrick Masterson.

Interestingly, the Tesla Model Y has held the first place in the ranking for the third consecutive year, demonstrating the stability of the American electric vehicle brand’s position. At the same time, the total number of models from Asian manufacturers in the list indicates their successful adaptation to the American market and consumer demands.
