Land Rover Tests New Electric Velar on the Nürburgring
JLR is preparing to launch a whole line of electric vehicles – by 2026, the company plans to introduce six new models. The first will be the full-size Range Rover EV, which will go on sale this year, with the electric Velar following shortly after.
Test prototypes are already undergoing trials on the famous German track. This allows engineers to check how the chassis and brakes handle the weight of a battery with a capacity of about 100 kWh, as well as assess the reliability of electronic systems under extreme conditions.
Design and Technical Features
Despite the camouflage, characteristic design features are noticeable – slim LED headlights, compact windows, and wide wheel arches. The doors will likely feature a frameless design, emphasizing the coupe-like silhouette.
The new EMA platform will allow the car to receive over-the-air updates and charge at speeds over 270 kW.
This architecture will be used not only for the Velar but also for future electric versions of the Evoque and Discovery Sport. Although the platform was initially developed exclusively for electric vehicles, the company may reconsider its plans due to reduced demand for EVs in some countries.
Despite market changes, Land Rover continues to actively develop electric technologies. The tests on the Nürburgring indicate that the company aims to offer customers not just “electrified” versions of existing models, but full-fledged products that account for the specifics of the new type of powertrains. The success of these efforts will determine the brand’s position in the face of fierce competition in the premium segment.
