Electric SUV from the manufacturer of your iPhone

Foxtron introduced its second electric vehicle: the Cavira crossover

Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn, which currently assembles Apple iPhones, has introduced its second electric vehicle. The model, named Cavira, created under the Foxtron brand, is a stylish SUV that will initially be sold in Taiwan and later likely appear in other markets.

Design and dimensions

Visually, the Cavira resembles the smaller Foxtron Bria, introduced earlier this year, which in turn will become the basis for a model under the Mitsubishi brand. But while the Bria is a compact hatchback, the Cavira is closer in size to the Tesla Model Y. Its length is 195.4 inches (4695 mm), and its wheelbase is 114.9 inches (2920 mm).

The front features a darkened lower grille and striking headlights with a mandatory LED light bar, which you expect to see on a new Asian electric vehicle. Bold lines run along the door panels, and at the rear are thin LED taillights and a spoiler extending from the roof.

Technical specifications and versions

Two versions of the Cavira have been confirmed. The first, known as the Emerge Long-Range Edition, has a single rear electric motor with 249 hp (186 kW) and a claimed range of 359 miles (578 km). Foxtron will also offer the Cavira in a Pioneer Long-Range Performance Edition, which uses two electric motors to achieve 468 hp (349 kW). This will reduce the range to 334 miles (538 km), but the car can accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. Both versions use the same 82.7 kWh LFP battery.

Interior and equipment

The interior of the Foxtron Cavira is fairly conventional, as in many new electric vehicles. Key features include a large digital instrument cluster and a portrait-oriented 15.6-inch infotainment display. One element we like is the row of physical switches beneath this screen for important car functions.

Other important interior features include a 12-speaker audio system, heated and ventilated front seats, over-the-air software update capability, and a fragrance system. Also present are all the safety features you expect from a modern electric vehicle, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist technologies.

Interestingly, Foxconn, primarily known as an electronics manufacturer, is actively investing in the automotive sector. The Cavira becomes the company’s second step after the Model C concept, and its market launch could intensify competition in the electric crossover segment, especially in Asia. While the interior design does not impress with innovation, the technical specifications, particularly the power of the dual-motor version and the range, make the Cavira a worthy player in the market. The question remains whether a company without traditional automotive experience can establish mass production and service maintenance on par with established automakers.
