Ferrari recommends six customers to stop operating their expensive sports cars

Ferrari recall due to fire risk

Ferrari has announced a recall of a small batch of its 2025 model year 296 GTB and 296 GTS sports cars. The reason is a technical defect that could lead to oil leakage and potential ignition. Owners of the affected vehicles are recommended to refrain from driving until the inspection is completed.

Problem details

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the problem lies in the improper fastening of the nut that secures the connection of the oil filter to the oil supply lines for the turbocharger. This could cause oil leakage and increase the risk of fire.

The source of the defect has been identified as a semi-automatic workstation at the supplier, which may have applied incorrect torque when tightening the nut. Ferrari detected the problem earlier this month during an inspection of two 296 Speciale cars that had not yet been delivered to customers.

Manufacturer’s response

Despite the absence of owner complaints related to this defect, as well as no reports of accidents or injuries, the company decided to take precautionary measures. Dealerships will inspect the affected vehicles and, if necessary, properly tighten the nut.

Further actions

Initially, notifications to owners were planned to be sent by mid-December, which raises some doubts about timeliness, given the recommendation not to drive the vehicles. However, the scale of the recall is limited, as it concerns only six vehicles.

This situation highlights how important quality control is at all stages of production, even for premium brands like Ferrari. The quick detection of the problem before delivery to customers avoided more serious consequences, but confirms the need for constant monitoring of high-tech processes.
