Ferrari Studies Chinese Xiaomi SU7 Ahead of Its Own Electric Car Launch
Ferrari is preparing for a historic moment – the presentation of its first electric vehicle in the spring of 2026. As it turns out, the Italian supercar manufacturer is studying the Chinese Xiaomi SU7, which has already impressed the world with its dynamic characteristics. A yellow sedan with distinctive silver stripes was spotted near Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello.
Chinese Technologies Attract the Attention of the Legendary Brand
Just five years ago, the idea that Ferrari would be interested in a Chinese car seemed absurd. However, the situation has changed dramatically. The Xiaomi SU7 set a record for production electric vehicles on the Nürburgring with a time of 7:04.957, which is three seconds faster than the Porsche Taycan.
The trio of electric motors in the SU7 Ultra produces 1526 hp, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.98 seconds and reach a top speed of 359 km/h.
Experts suggest that Ferrari might be interested in Xiaomi’s electric platform and thermal management system, especially during prolonged dynamic driving. Interestingly, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun is also a Ferrari fan – last year he was spotted behind the wheel of a red Purosangue.
According to Reuters, Ferrari’s first electric vehicle will be released in a limited series to gradually accustom its clients to the idea of a car without an engine. The second electric car, which will have a crossover body, is expected to be a more mass-market model. However, the company has already postponed the launch dates due to weak demand for premium electric vehicles.
This situation shows how quickly the automotive market is changing. Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi are not only catching up with traditional leaders but are also setting new standards in the electric vehicle industry. Ferrari, for its part, is demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn from unexpected sources ahead of its debut in the world of electric cars.
