Ferrari postpones the launch of its second electric car
Ferrari has delayed the release of its second electric car from 2026 to 2028. The reason was weak demand for luxury electric vehicles. However, the first model will still debut in 2026, but production will be limited.
The company had planned to introduce two electric cars simultaneously but decided to change its strategy due to market conditions. As sources report:
Ferrari recognized that demand is too weak to risk the planned debut.
Details about the first model
The first Ferrari electric car, developed with the involvement of former Apple designer Jony Ive, will be a symbolic step into a new era. It will cost over $500,000 and be released in a limited series. The second model, which has been postponed, was supposed to be more mass-market – plans were to release 5-6 thousand units over five years.
Other premium car manufacturers are also facing problems. Porsche, for example, is delaying the electric versions of the Boxster and Cayman because heavier electric cars do not yet meet their handling standards.
The delay will give Ferrari additional time to refine its technologies. The company has not yet commented on these reports, but it is obvious that the electric vehicle market in the premium segment is developing slower than expected. This is forcing manufacturers to revise their plans and adapt to the actual preferences of buyers.
