Fiat 500 Hybrid: Possibility of Manual Transmission Switching

New Fiat 500 Hybrid Prepares for Production

Fiat is preparing to launch production of the new hybrid version of the 500 model this autumn. The company decided to add an internal combustion engine to the electric version due to low sales of the fully electric variant. The car will likely receive a 1.0-liter mild-hybrid engine already used in the Panda model.

Although Fiat has not yet confirmed the technical specifications, interior images show that the hybrid version will have a six-speed manual transmission. The power is expected to be 69 hp, which is significantly less than that of the electric versions (94 or 117 hp).

“The 500 Hybrid offers accessible electrification and iconic style, proving the brand’s social responsibility,” stated Olivier François, CEO of Fiat.

Exterior Appearance and Features

Externally, the hybrid version will be almost indistinguishable from the electric one, except for a small radiator grille necessary for engine cooling. The company hopes that a more accessible price and more familiar technology will help increase sales.

The decision to create a hybrid version was made after Fiat repeatedly reduced prices on the 500e due to low demand. However, unlike the 500, other electric models of the brand, such as the Abarth, will not receive similar hybrid versions due to insufficient performance.

Interestingly, Fiat maintains a balance between traditional and innovative technologies, trying to meet the diverse needs of buyers. The hybrid variant could become an intermediate solution for those who are not yet ready to fully switch to electric vehicles but want to reduce their environmental impact.
