Fiat Sold Nearly 20 Times More 500e Electric Cars in Canada Than in the US

The popularity of the electric Fiat 500e has grown significantly over the past year. This small city car is much more accessible in Canada than in the US. Overall, Stellantis group sales in Canada increased by 15 percent in the first quarter.

Contrast Between the Two Countries

Americans do not show particular fondness for new Fiat models, and the numbers clearly confirm this. The Italian brand sold only 155 cars in the US during the first quarter of 2025, which is 70 percent less than a year earlier. However, across the border in Canada, the situation is radically different.

While Fiat struggles with almost zero demand in the US, where 500e sales fell by 85 percent to just 68 units, things are going much better in the north. In Canada, sales of the tiny electric car have soared.

Impressive Sales Difference

From January to March, Canadian buyers purchased 1,287 units of the electric 500e, the only model Fiat currently sells there. This is 19 times more than was sold in the US, and 72 percent more than the 749 units sold in the first quarter of 2025. This figure is also more than eight times higher than Fiat’s total sales in the US for the same period.

Key Factor – Price

Undoubtedly, the significantly lower price influences the greater popularity of the 500e in Canada compared to America. In the States, prices for the 500e start at $30,500, which is only about $5,000 cheaper than a new Chevrolet Equinox EV, which is significantly larger, more practical, and has double the range.

In Canada, the Fiat 500e starts at 30,290 Canadian dollars, which at the current exchange rate is about $21,700 US dollars. After applying the $5,000 Canadian government Electric Vehicle Affordability Program incentive, the effective price is approximately 25,290 Canadian dollars. This makes it the most affordable electric car on the Canadian market.

Different Results for Stellantis Brands

Fiat was not the only brand under the Stellantis umbrella to show growth in the first quarter of 2026. Jeep sales increased by 3 percent, and Ram grew by 7 percent. Chrysler recorded the largest increase – 98 percent, driven by a rapid 256 percent surge in demand for the Pacifica model.

Things did not go as well for Dodge, whose sales fell by 4 percent. Additionally, Alfa Romeo showed a sharp decline of 51 percent, with only 81 cars sold: 15 Giulia sedans, 46 Stelvio SUVs, and 20 Tonale crossovers.

Overall Sales Picture

Stellantis’s total sales volume in Canada amounted to 30,278 units for the first quarter, which is 15 percent more than the same period last year. The table details the results by models and brands, showing both successes and problematic areas for the group in this market.

Such different dynamics in two, at first glance, similar markets like the US and Canada, clearly indicate how decisive local factors can be, such as government support for electric vehicles and competitive pricing policy. The success of an affordable model like the Fiat 500e in Canada contrasts with the difficulty of promoting it in a market where it cannot compete on price-to-features ratio. The future of other brands in the group, especially niche ones like Alfa Romeo, in these territories will likely depend on their ability to offer unique products that meet the specific expectations and budgets of local consumers.
