Ford Tried Twice to Fix the Problem, But These SUVs Can Still Catch Fire

Ford Recalls Nearly 700,000 Vehicles Due to Fire Risk

Ford has announced a recall of 694,000 Escape and Bronco Sport SUVs due to a potential self-ignition hazard. The issue concerns models from 2020-2024 equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. It was discovered that the fuel injectors can crack, leading to fuel leakage and fire.

According to the manufacturer, eight cases of ignition due to this defect have already been recorded. Ford has already tried twice to solve the problem – first by installing special tubes to drain fuel, then by updating the software. However, these measures proved to be insufficient.

Unresolved Problem

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) conducted its own investigation and determined that Ford must completely replace the faulty injectors. The company has not yet announced a final decision but has already begun installing updated software on vehicles that have not received previous fixes.

Some vehicles missed the software update and were recalled again in March 2025

Experts have established that corrosion plays a key role in damaging the injectors. According to company estimates, it will likely have to replace several million parts to finally resolve the issue. For now, owners are recommended to contact dealerships to receive a temporary fix.
