Ford is Preparing a Potential Successor to the Ford GT

Ford Racing has announced the premiere of a completely new road sports car for January 15, 2026—a machine designed to bring the maximum of motorsport technologies into the production world and show the “Blue Oval” from its most aggressive side.

Ford periodically forgot about emotions in its lineup, but last year CEO Jim Farley publicly promised: there will be no more “boring” models. And so far, the company is sticking to this course—and seriously so. This September, the Ford Performance division revived the historic name Ford Racing. Structurally, nothing changes formally, but the meaning is obvious: there are significantly more sports projects.

In the coming years, Ford will fully engage with major sports: it is returning to Formula 1 with Red Bull, entering Le Mans in 2027, and between these milestones—a number of other motorsport programs that the company is still keeping in the shadows.

Currently, the flagship among Ford’s road sports cars is the Mustang GTD—an insanely fast and technically impressive coupe, but it’s still not a supercar in the classic sense. The last true supercar from Ford was the second-generation mid-engine GT, production of which ended in 2022. And since then, the company has been silent about a possible successor.

This silence is telling. There are no leaks, no spy shots, no rumors about a hot development phase. So it’s logical to assume that the car to be shown in January is in the early stages of creation and won’t reach the production market soon.

However, it’s not at all certain that we are talking specifically about the successor to the Ford GT. It could be:

The only thing that definitely won’t be is an electric vehicle. Ford Racing clearly understands the current market sentiment: battery-powered sports cars are not needed by anyone right now, and the timing for such experiments is unfortunate.

So the intrigue remains at its peak. On January 15, we will finally find out which project Ford wants to make the symbol of its new sports era.

Let us remind you that there are two first-generation Ford GTs in Ukraine at once. The cost of these cars can reach a million dollars.
