Ford may mislead over a million drivers due to faulty rearview cameras

Ford recalls over a million vehicles due to rearview camera issues

Ford has initiated a large-scale recall due to a potential malfunction in the rearview camera system. Owners of some vehicles encountered situations where the image on the screen was delayed, frozen, or not displayed at all. This can pose a serious problem during parking, especially in crowded parking lots.

The issue did not arise from the camera’s hardware or the display but from the software that transmits the image. Ford offers to update the APIM module software either at dealerships or via wireless updates where possible.

Which models are affected by the recall?

The list includes nearly all popular Ford models, such as:

The issue also affects three Lincoln models: Corsair, Nautilus, and Navigator.

Rearview cameras became mandatory for all new vehicles in the U.S. starting in 2018. However, manufacturers have increasingly faced technical issues related to these systems. This is not the first recall due to camera malfunctions, and similar incidents are likely to occur in the future.

In recent years, parking technologies have advanced significantly, but this situation serves as a reminder that even the most modern systems require continuous improvement. Manufacturers must balance innovation with reliability, especially when it comes to the safety of drivers and pedestrians.
