Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Produces Power That Doubles the Output of the 911 Carrera

Performance Specifications Revealed

When Ford presented the Mustang Dark Horse SC earlier this year, the company did not disclose detailed performance specifications. Now the company has revealed the details, announcing that the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine develops 795 horsepower and 895 Nm of torque.

Power in Comparison

This is only slightly less than the flagship Mustang GTD, which has 815 hp and 900 Nm, but significantly surpasses the standard Dark Horse. The naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 in that model produces 500 hp and 567 Nm. This means an increase of 295 hp and 328 Nm. This power also more than doubles the output of the Porsche 911 Carrera with its 388 hp.

This is impressive, and such an engine allows the Mustang to surpass the now-discontinued Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat with its 717 hp in terms of power. However, it still falls short of the former SRT Hellcat Redeye (797 hp), SRT Super Stock and SRT Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak (807 hp) models, as well as the SRT Demon 170 with 1025 hp. The closest modern competitor now is the Dodge Charger Scat Pack with 550 hp, although this may change in the future.

Market Position

It is also worth noting that the Dark Horse SC significantly outperforms the former Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which had a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 producing 650 hp and 881 Nm of torque. This expensive car now firmly stands on Corvette territory, in terms of performance effectively occupying a position between the Grand Sport X (721 hp) and ZR1 (1064 hp) models.

Price and Trims

Despite this, the Dark Horse SC can be considered a relative bargain, as its price starts at $108,485 – including delivery and the gas-guzzler tax. However, to get the version with the Track Pack, one will have to pay $144,985. This trim includes a number of enhancements, among them Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, removed rear seats, and 20-inch carbon fiber wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.

Order Details

Ford is already accepting orders. All models are equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, as well as an aluminum hood with a carbon fiber vent. Standard equipment also includes unique front lighting, MagneRide suspension, and a D-shaped steering wheel.

The arrival of the Mustang Dark Horse SC clearly demonstrates Ford’s intention to seriously compete in the high-performance car market, traditionally occupied by European brands. The price exceeding one hundred thousand dollars makes it not only the most powerful production Mustang but also one of the most expensive in the lineup, changing the perception of this iconic car. The success of this model may determine the company’s further strategy for developing high-performance directions in an era where the main trend is electrification.
