Electric Ford Mustang Mach-E Demonstrates Impressive Durability
When Ford introduced the fully electric Mustang Mach-E SUV in 2020, the decision raised many questions and sparked debate. Despite initial skepticism, the model has managed to establish itself as a reliable option among electric SUVs. While it has never managed to surpass the Tesla Model Y in popularity, there were periods when it even sold better than the gasoline-powered Mustang, especially before the expiration of federal tax incentives.
One of the most active owners of this model is David Blenke, who uses his 2022 Mustang Mach-E for a private charter service in the Santa Cruz, California area. During its use, his car has covered over 316,000 miles (over 508,500 kilometers), transporting more than 7,000 passengers.
Battery Condition After Record Mileage
The most impressive aspect is the condition of the car’s battery pack. David Blenke reported that after covering over 316,000 miles, the battery capacity has decreased by only 8%. This means the car retains about 92% of its original capacity, which is an outstanding metric.
Data from the analytics company Recurrent indicates that most electric vehicles with over 250,000 miles retain approximately 80% of their original battery capacity. Blenke’s metric is significantly higher than average.

Maintenance and Costs
According to the owner, the car has not required any major repairs. Even the brake pads remain original. The main expenses have been:
- Six sets of tires
- Seven cabin air filters
- Over twenty scheduled maintenance services every 10,000 miles

The Secret to Battery Longevity
David Blenke emphasizes that his charging habits play a key role in preserving battery health. He charges the car to 90% every evening and tries not to let the charge level drop below 20%. Most charging is done at home using a Level 2 charger, and while working he uses the public Electrify America network. He also has an adapter to access the Tesla Supercharger network if needed.
This experience of operating an electric vehicle provides valuable insights for future buyers and EV developers. It demonstrates that with proper care and usage conditions, modern battery systems can exhibit significantly better durability than is often assumed. Such real-world stories help form a more objective picture of the lifespan of electric vehicles and can influence the decision-making of potential owners who hesitate due to concerns about battery longevity.
