Ford Recalls Mustang Mach-E Again Due to Brake Issues
Ford has announced a recall of some 2021 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles. The reason is an incorrect fix for a brake system issue during a previous recall in 2024.
As reported by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, eight electric vehicles did not have the anti-lock brake system software update installed correctly. This causes the system to revert to a default mode, which reduces braking effectiveness.
In this mode, drivers may experience a longer pedal travel, greater effort required for braking, and a reduced response from the brake system.
Cause of the Problem
It turned out that the software tool used during the previous recall did not load the correct update onto some of the vehicles. Ford learned about the problem in November 2023 and conducted an investigation, which showed that only 84.5% of the recalled vehicles received the correct update.
Although the company has not recorded any accidents or injuries due to this issue, it decided to conduct a repeat recall. Owners of the affected vehicles will have to visit dealerships again to install the correct software.
This is not the first time Ford has faced problems during recalls of its electric vehicles. Such incidents raise questions about the quality of control over software update processes in the automotive industry, especially when it comes to the complex electronic systems of modern vehicles.
