Ford Confirms Mustang Dark Horse SC Produces “Significantly More Than 700 Horsepower”

First Mustang Dark Horse SC Sold at Auction for a Record Amount

The first example of the new Mustang Dark Horse SC was sold at auction for an impressive $1.25 million. This amount significantly exceeds the expected starting price of the production model. All proceeds from the sale of this car will be directed to charity.

Key features of this car include:

Engine Power and Auction Excitement

The price of $1.25 million may seem excessive for a car that is supposed to be a more accessible alternative to the GTD supercar. However, before the start of bidding, a Ford representative revealed an interesting detail that the company had not previously advertised.

Under the hood, we have a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 with power significantly over 700 hp.

These are the words of Matt Simpson, Ford’s Executive Director of Customization. For comparison, the GTD model with a more refined version of this same engine develops 815 hp, while the standard naturally aspirated Dark Horse with a 5.0L engine has 500 hp.

Features of the Track Pack Special Edition Configuration

The car sold at auction is not the base model. It is a special Track Pack Special Edition version, which combines the Track Pack and Carbon Pack. This configuration is only available in Shadow Black or Oxford White colors.

This means the car received carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes from the GTD model, MagneRide adaptive dampers with special suspension tuning, 20-inch alloy wheels with exposed carbon fiber, and a rear spoiler made of the same material. The latter generates 620 pounds (280 kg) of downforce at 180 mph (290 km/h).

The interior combines the attributes of a race car and a technological show car: Recaro seats, Alcantara, carbon fiber trim elements, and even titanium paddle shifters manufactured using 3D-printing technology, borrowed from the GTD.

This car was created with one mission — to surpass elite European sports cars.

Charitable Context of the Sale

Although for such an amount the auction winner could have purchased many other elite sports cars, their decision has a compelling reason. All revenue from the sale of this specific car will be directed to support the Breakthrough T1D organization, which researches type 1 diabetes. Thus, the record amount will go to charity, making this deal particularly special.

The sale of the first Dark Horse SC demonstrates not only the high demand for exclusive cars but also the willingness of automakers and collectors to support important social initiatives. This auction became a vivid example of how the automotive industry can combine high technology and powerful emotions with charity. The success of the Mustang GTD, referenced in the context, indicates that the market is ready for the appearance of such high-performance yet relatively accessible models as the Dark Horse SC, even ahead of the official sales start.
