Ford unveils compact electric pickup ahead of sales launch in 2027

Ford launches teaser campaign for its compact electric pickup

Just a few days after the long-awaited compact electric Ford pickup was spotted under camouflage in the US, the company itself launched a new website for this model and began its own teaser campaign.

Although Ford, like many of its competitors, has significantly reduced investments in new electric vehicles due to weak demand and changing policies in the US, the company remains committed to this pickup and the innovative versatile EV platform on which it is based. The website features three videos offering a brief behind-the-scenes look at the development and showing the vehicle during testing.

Winter testing and a new production process

In the first video, the new compact Ford electric pickup is shown at a specialized test center, followed by footage of it driving in snow. The video also offers a brief overview of the manufacturing plant where this vehicle is created and the assembly process of its simplified platform.

In another video, Ford Senior Vehicle Software Specialist Chris Kirkland demonstrates more winter testing in Northern Michigan. This video provides an excellent opportunity to see the model, which in size resembles the old Ford Ranger from the 1990s, though it has four doors.

Design and price

The vehicle’s design is quite interesting: thanks to the electric powertrain, it can have a very short hood. Additionally, it features a steeply raked windshield to improve aerodynamics. Key elements being perfected in the snow include stability and traction control systems, as well as electronic power assisted steering (EPAS).

Ford also confirmed what we suspected: the compact electric pickup will hit the market next year. Key technical specifications and pricing will only be known closer to its launch, but the starting price is expected to be around $30,000, and the vehicle will be equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery.

Ford’s innovative production process for this pickup is expected to be a key factor in reducing costs and accelerating production. The new model, which some are already calling the Ranchero, is expected to compete in the affordable EV segment, where demand is steadily growing. It is worth noting that Ford is betting on this model despite the general slowdown in the US EV market, indicating the company’s confidence in its potential. Given its size, reminiscent of the old Ranger, the new pickup could be an ideal option for urban conditions and those who need a practical but compact zero-emission vehicle.
