Ford Racing is Preparing a Mysterious ‘Road Model’ for January

Premiere of the New Ford Racing Car

In January, Ford Racing plans to introduce a completely new “road car” that will combine innovations from motorsport and conventional vehicles. Among the possible options are an off-road vehicle, a special GTD version, or a successor to the Mustang GT500.

Event in Detroit

The Detroit Auto Show will begin on January 14, 2026, but the main premiere will not take place within the exhibition center. Ford Racing will organize a separate event on January 15 at the Michigan Central Station, where a special project, shrouded in secrecy, will be presented.

Company representatives emphasized that this will be an exclusive showcase of a new road model that demonstrates how technologies from race tracks are integrated into production cars. Most likely, the model will be based on the Mustang or the Raptor lineup.

Possible Candidates for the Premiere

Details remain limited, but a test version of the Mustang GTD was recently spotted at the Nürburgring. Ford CEO Jim Farley has openly expressed interest in reclaiming the American speed record, currently held by General Motors with the Corvette ZR1 model. The latter, by the way, costs almost $150,000 less than Ford’s track supercar.

In addition to the Mustang, Farley has also hinted at an off-road vehicle costing around $300,000, inspired by the Dakar Rally. According to him, this model could receive a hybrid power unit with 1000 hp, a fully adjustable suspension, and the ability to reach high speeds on dirt roads. He also ruled out the possibility of creating a pickup truck, focusing on a high-speed car for extreme conditions.

Other Events from Ford Racing

In addition to the mysterious road model, Ford Racing will hold the annual season launch, where various motorsport directions will be presented – from NASCAR to endurance races, including the Dakar and Baja rallies. Also, Red Bull will present the livery of the cars that will mark Ford’s return to Formula 1 after a 22-year break.

This event could be an important step for Ford in competing with other automakers, especially against the backdrop of growing competition in the high-performance and electrified model segment. Integrating racing technologies into production cars not only increases their appeal but also demonstrates the brand’s strategy of combining innovation with accessibility for a wide range of customers.
