Ford Eliminates the Main Drawback of Puma Gen-E and Adds Smart Enhancement

Electric Puma Update

The Ford Puma returned in 2019 as a compact SUV, receiving an update in 2024 and a fully electric Gen-E version the same year. Now Ford has introduced a slightly updated 2026 version for the electric vehicle, which offers greater range and expanded driver assistance features.

Improved Range

The most important figure is the improved WLTP standard range, which is now 400 km (249 miles), 24 km (15 miles) more than the previous model. In the urban cycle, the 2026 Ford Puma Gen-E can travel up to 550 km (342 miles), which should mean less need for charging for most owners.

The added distance is provided by an “optimized battery design,” which retains the same 43 kWh capacity.

The company did not specify whether this figure applies to the base Gen-E version with 17-inch wheels or the Premium trim with 18-inch wheels. Power remains at 166 hp (124 kW) and 290 Nm of torque, delivered to the front wheels via a single electric motor.

Market Positioning

The 400 km WLTP figure positions the Puma Gen-E well in its segment, closely matching competitors such as the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica, Jeep Avenger, Fiat 600e, Opel Mokka Electric, Peugeot E-2008, Renault 4 E-Tech, and Mini Aceman. However, it still falls short of the Kia EV3 Long Range, which claims a range of up to 604 km (375 miles) under the same cycle.

BlueCruise System

Starting in spring 2026, the smallest Ford in Europe will be available with the BlueCruise system, allowing for hands-free highway driving as part of the optional Driver Assistance Pack. This technology is gradually spreading across the entire model range and is now also confirmed for the Kuga and Ranger PHEV.

Since its European debut in 2023, BlueCruise has expanded to 16 markets and covers over 135,000 km (84,000 miles) of approved highways.

External Changes

Predictably, no style updates have occurred, and the Puma Gen-E retains its grille-less design. The rest of the body remains shared with the updated mild-hybrid version.

Interior and Features

The same applies to the interior, where the digital instrument panel includes a 12.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch multimedia system. Another feature of the Puma is the “Gigabox” storage compartment under the trunk. Cargo volume is 574 liters (20.3 cubic feet) in the rear and another 43 liters (1.5 cubic feet) in the front trunk.

Price and Availability

The 2026 Ford Puma Gen-E is available for order in the UK starting from £26,245 ($34,500). This price has remained unchanged compared to the current model, although it now benefits from updated local incentives.

The electric Puma updates reflect the general trend among automakers to continuously improve electric vehicle performance without increasing their cost. Improvements in range and the addition of advanced driver assistance systems make this model more competitive in the European electric compact crossover market, where competition is particularly fierce. Price stability with improved technical specifications could be a decisive factor for potential buyers considering the switch to electric vehicles.
