Ford issues 4 recalls in one day, from windows not lowering to faulty cameras

Ford announced four new recalls that affect over 60,000 vehicles across various product lines.

Some vehicles have issues with windows that do not lower if they detect objects.

Others face malfunctioning cameras that will be fixed with a software update.

The company is aware of the recall issue and, understandably, is working on a solution – although they’ve said this before. This is the second time this month the automaker has issued multiple recalls in one day. This time, there are four of them covering over 60,000 vehicles in at least seven different model lines. All the issues appear to be fixable through a software update, which may be the only positive aspect of this ordeal.

Earlier this month, the company recalled some other vehicles. Most of them also required software updates to fix software errors – yes, it seems software gremlins are still at work. But at least most of them can be fixed without needing to take the vehicles in for replacement parts.

Rearview camera issues

For example, the largest recall of the day involves 49,399 vehicles, including the 2020-2023 Explorer, and 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair to fix a rearview camera glitch. It seems that each of these vehicles either didn’t receive a fix or received an incomplete one in a previous recall.

Battery degradation detection

The next largest recall pertains to the 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and . This includes 12,833 vehicles needing a software update to fix an issue related to sudden battery degradation detection. Essentially, this can lead to the vehicle stalling or simply failing to restart after an auto stop/start.

Edge and Super Duty recalls

The next recall involves a much smaller number – 2,290 Ford Edge models from 2021-2022. Like the rearview camera recall, it also addresses a software issue related to the rearview camera. Affected vehicles may display a blank, distorted, shaded, or all-white screen while reversing, which is not ideal for those looking to see where they’re going.

Lastly, nine Ford Super Duty trucks from 2023 have another software issue. This time it relates to the automatic window lowering function. When a potential pinch situation is detected, the window should automatically lower. Again, the best part of this entire situation is that the fix will be a minor software update. Hopefully, this new version solves these problems once and for all.

Overall, the positive aspect here is that fixes seem to be simple software updates, so no one should have to deal with replacing parts.
