GAC to Present a Cybertruck-Style Pickup in 2027

Chinese GAC Pickup 01 Could Become a Competitor to Tesla Cybertruck

In 2027, the Chinese company GAC plans to launch its new Pickup 01 on the market, whose design could compete with the Tesla Cybertruck. The car’s concept was presented at the Shanghai Auto Show. It features a cubic and wedge-shaped form, making it unique among other Chinese pickups.

If the production version retains the concept’s features, it will get increased off-road capability, retractable tow hooks, and distinctive wheels. LED panels above the windshield and cameras instead of traditional mirrors are also provided.

“The concept, which looks a bit like a cross between a Cybertruck and a new , has a very boxy and wedgy shape, making it stand out from all other Chinese pickups.”

Interior and Target Markets

The concept’s interior had an unusual solution – the steering wheel was mounted on a special panel that allowed it to be moved from the left side to the right. However, such a design is unlikely to appear in the production version due to safety requirements. But the widescreen multimedia system and minimalist design may be preserved.

GAC plans to sell the Pickup 01 not only in China but also in other markets, including Saudi Arabia, Australia, and Chile. Details about the powertrain have not been disclosed yet.

Chinese manufacturers continue to experiment with design and technologies, trying to create unique models for the global market. The Pickup 01 is another example of how traditional segments, such as pickups, are receiving a new, bold embodiment. The success of this model will depend on how well the production version can preserve the avant-garde spirit of the concept.
