Trash Can Guarantee: New Corvette ZR1 Resold with $70,000 Profit

Impressive Corvette ZR1 Resale Profit

A brand new 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, with only five miles on the odometer, was sold at auction for a price significantly higher than its original cost. Although the car’s warranty was voided due to the manufacturer’s conditions, this did not prevent a substantial profit from the deal.

Power and Limitations

The Chevrolet C8 Corvette ZR1 with 1,064 horsepower offers performance levels previously unthinkable for an American supercar, creating competition for much more expensive European models. The manufacturer General Motors introduced a policy voiding the warranty for any ZR1 resold within 12 months of purchase to prevent quick resales for profit. However, this did not stop a buyer from paying a significant premium for the car with minimal mileage.

Vehicle Features

This Corvette ZR1 has a base price of $191,400 but is also equipped with the $27,350 ZTK Performance Track package. This package includes upgraded carbon-ceramic brakes, a sport suspension, and extreme aerodynamic elements such as a massive rear wing, front splitter, and canards.

Externally, the car is painted in the subdued Jet Black color but is additionally adorned with Edge Blue racing stripes and matching 20- and 21-inch alloy wheels, shod in special Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.

Interior and Updates

The interior features GT2 seats upholstered in Jet Black Nappa leather with blue stitching and blue seatbelts. There are also Alcantara elements and a 14-speaker Bose audio system. As a 2026 model, this ZR1 received an additional 6.6-inch display to the left of the main 14-inch screen, making the interior more organized and also eliminating the famous ‘button wall’ that was controversial in previous C8 versions.

Deal’s Financial Result

This car was listed on the Bring a Trailer auction with a starting price of $220,745. Despite the loss of warranty, it was sold for $290,000, bringing the first owner a profit of nearly $70,000.

The price of $290,000 for a Corvette ZR1 is very high, especially considering that the more powerful all-wheel-drive hybrid ZR1X version is available starting from $205,400. However, finding such a model at the recommended price can be difficult due to limited availability and potential dealer markups.

This situation illustrates how the demand for limited-edition sports cars can outweigh economic logic. Buyers are often willing to pay a premium for the opportunity to own a rare specimen, even if technically superior alternatives exist. Such cases also raise questions about the effectiveness of manufacturer restrictions aimed at combating resale, as the market finds ways to circumvent such rules.
