Genesis G70: A Future in Question
The Genesis G70 remains the last representative of an era that may be coming to an end. It is the only rear-wheel-drive, exclusively gasoline-powered car from the Hyundai Motor Group. While the Elantra N, Ioniq 5 N, and EV6 GT also exist, the G70 holds a special place. However, its future is threatened by low sales.
Analysts believe the G70’s life cycle is nearing its end, and the model may disappear after 2027. In the first half of 2025, only 5,136 units were sold, which is just 856 cars per month. For comparison, the BMW 3-Series sold 14,137 units, and the Mercedes C-Class sold 13,674.
Why is the G70 Losing?
The reasons for the lag could be various: from weak brand recognition to buyer loyalty to established competitors. Although the G70 offers excellent dynamics, a competitive price, and a better warranty, changing consumer preferences is not easy.
“Consumers looking for a low driver seating position and a trunk are an endangered species. Modern crossovers offer better handling and fuel economy,” noted Sam Fiorani, Vice President of AutoForecast Solutions.
Genesis officials state that they do not currently plan to discontinue the G70, but its fate will depend on future sales. For now, it seems the model faces uncertainty unless something unforeseen happens.
The car market is changing rapidly, and traditional sedans are losing ground to crossovers and electric vehicles. Even if the G70 offers a quality product, it has to fight not only competitors but also the overall trend of change in the industry.
