New Platform for Genesis
Next year, Genesis will introduce its own, unique platform for its cars. This will be an important step in the development of the brand, which initially was just a premium division of Hyundai but later became an independent luxury marque. The new architecture promises to deliver performance and quality worthy of the premium class.
Technical Features
The platform is designed with flexibility in mind and supports various powertrain configurations, including electric vehicles and hybrid powertrains. It is specifically created to provide a true premium driving experience.
Head of Genesis Motor Europe, Peter Kronenbitter, emphasized in a comment for Autocar:
It was decided that to meet the brand’s driving dynamics requirements, Genesis needs its own platform for future models.
He also noted that the architecture will be sporty, with “relatively direct steering” and a firm yet comfortable ride. The goal is for Genesis’s driving dynamics to be able to compete with other premium brands.
Future Models and Strategy
It is not yet clear which specific models will receive the new platform, but Genesis is actively working on a number of new cars. Among them is a high-performance sports coupe, a concept of which (Magma GT) has already been unveiled. The brand aims to increase annual sales to 350,000 units by 2030 through the introduction of new hybrid, electric, and range-extender vehicles.
However, the company is approaching the expansion of its lineup cautiously. Kronenbitter stated that Genesis does not plan to fill every possible market niche to avoid confusing customers. Currently, the lineup is clearly segmented, and this principle will remain even with the launch of new products.
The development of its own platform is not just a technical update but a symbolic break from the past when Genesis was seen merely as an enhanced version of Hyundai. This step demonstrates the brand’s ambition to create full-fledged, technologically independent cars capable of setting new standards in the luxury segment. The success of this initiative will largely depend on how successfully it manages to combine innovation, dynamic qualities, and that compelling identity that distinguishes true market leaders.
